How T-shirt shop Silberfischer rolls in Berlin

We recently spotted some bold and colorful tees from Berlin based Silberfischer on Rumplo and sent them a note with a few questions about how people in Berlin roll with their tees. Elke, their designer, gives us the scoop.

Rumplo Your shop is run out of Berlin, do you find that the styles in your city different from what you see on people from New York or Tokyo?

Elke There is a big Berlin hype nowadays. People visiting our store do mention that our designs are different from the designs in their countries. Berlin is rough, always changing, unfinished and chaotic. Since life isn’t that expensive as in other big cities a lot of creative people are moving to Berlin just to do what they love. That is what we do, too.

Rumplo We noticed that you use a few novel printing or stitching techniques in your shirts, what inspired that?

Elke We are proud owners of a computerized stitching machine, yes. I’m really inspired by shops that sell all their stuff for just 1 EUR or in the ordinary supermarket, and I’m always looking for new materials to use in my designs like the duster for our sneaker appliqué.

Rumplo Can you tell us anything about any new T-shirts you’re working on? Is there anything in particular you’d like to work on?

Elke I’m currently working on a art deco like design which is also very geometric. Our other stuff will also be very optical and graphic. I’m happy with the work I’m doing — being a mom of two kids means the only material I’m short of is TIME!

Rumplo Thanks Elke! Check out more the Silberfisher shop at Silberfischer.com.
